4 meetings later… and having fun!
We have had four meetings so far and I am so happy to be able to say, that each one has been such tremendous fun and a great sucess. When I started this I really didn't know if there were many people out there who would be interested in it. Well there are, and some very nice people too! I have met a number of musicians and people in general who all enjoy the evenings. It is also great to see more French arriving and playing since the meetings have moved to Friday nights.
I am enjoying playing songs that I have never thought I would ever perform. Not to mention that I am now joined by Les Fabuleux Tartiflettes (Christiane, Terry & Jacky) on backing vocals, Keith on bass and Simon on drums. We hopefully will be joined soon by a French sax player and hoping to find a keyboard player soon. Wow – I can't wait, it is exciting and fun!
I had the pleasure of being invited along to a new radio station Radio Pays de Gueret RPG on 96.5 at 7pm 16th April by Julia Dunbar, who publishes Cruese News, local news from the Creuse and practical advice about living in France. I explained why I created the Club de Musique, how it works and that is great fun and has a good mix of French and English audience and musicians.
Another guest was also invited, Patrick Copley who runs a bar/bistro at St Georges la Pouge, see the events page. During the one hour show events were annouced and we had a general talk about life here in France, food, and what we missed of England. In my case, not a great deal other than family and friends and the choice of international cusine when dining out plus a local Indian restaurant.
I am hoping that Julia will add a recording of the broadcast on her website eventually and believe there are plans to invite us back in the near future, so keep an eye on this page to find out more.
The Fete de la Musique is rapidly approaching, and I think that we will be playing at La Cellete where Keith and Terry live, and where Keith is invloved in the committee for the events of the day. That will be our first public gig, so lots of practicing before the fete.
Some of you know that I work here in France as a graphic designer, so my time is occupied with work. I have had to move my guitars out of my office so that I concentrate on working when I need to. The problem is that when you are having fun you just want more! I brought them back in today – well I tried to be good.
I played some lead guitar for the first time at the last meeting, which was a personal achievement for me. Finding the confidence to play that style was great for me and I actually enjoyed it too. I have to mention that I do prefer playng my electric guitars a little more than the acoustic now. I also have a drum kit and a keyboard that I have fun with but need a lot more parctice on both.
Thank you all for taking part in the Club de Musique and making the evening such great fun and enjoyable for everyone there.
Until May 30th for the 5th meeting and more music and fun…Geoff
